Q Fisheries and Hatcharies
Goal: To create a socially and financially viable fishery in Bangladesh
Introduction:
The Share & Care plans to establish fisheries in the projected area to provide a sustainable income for the local people. One of the key goals for the fisheries project is also to provide money for the educational activities of the Share & Care. This project is part of a self-sustenance program for the educational activities of the Company. The new project is based in the areas that the S&Cis working already. Interestingly, the S&C Company strongly believes that education is the key for any meaningful and sustainable development. This is along the lines of what present government working on. The fisheries will be run by a separate body which will constitute of local people. Over the past 3 years, one of the main successes of the Company has been the organization and effective running of various projects.
Training: A fishery team will be set up to manage the initiative. They will provide both technical and social guidance. Technical guidance is needed for the renovation of the ponds (building of outlets for the ponds, ensuring that the ponds are well isolated, etc), ongoing maintenance of the ponds, and catching of the fish. Also, there will be a connection established between the company and the national fisheries, which is working very well.
The Ponds/water catchments: The project has a lot of low lands where water flooded during the rainy season. Our plan is to use these water and gathered it in various water catchments so that we can use it for fish cultivation. Such catchments will be re-dug and strengthened in order to gain enough deep to ensure ideal environment for fish to grow. The project area receives heavy rain which leads to lots of floods. Therefore it is important to build these outlet gates. The gates will also have netting so that the water will escape but not the fish. The repairs will all be done locally under the supervision of the S&C engineering team.
Hatchery: A hatchery will be built to produce in house breeding and food for fishes. Our dedicated expertise who are already in work to provide viable and cheap solution for hatchery projects so that it can be turned into a profitable concern. The excess produce will be channeled to outer market for profit.
